NEWS: Instagram Announces Profiles for the Web
Instagram has begun launching web profiles to give it’s 100 million social photographers a platform more appropriate for desktop use. The new web profiles include standard Instagram features like the ability follow other users, comment and like photos and although you can’t directly upload a photo from your desktop, Instagram still believes the new service will provide users with an easier method to share their photos.
Connections between the design of Instagram’s web profiles and the Timeline feature of Facebook are most obvious at the top of the user’s page with space similar to cover photos but feature 1 large photo and 6 smaller photos that change over time. Scroll down and you see all of the user’s photos and by the time you include #hashtags you’ll have a service that bypasses 3rd party developers like Webstagram or Statigram and create a user experience comparable to Pinterest
if you don’t already have the web profile [instagram.com/yourhandle] checkout some of these examples from @nike, @mycookingdiary, @cucinadigitale, and @palomarrot
